UPCYCLING
PSALMS - Day 1
The woman was proudly displaying a dress she had “upcycled” from her husband’s oversized T-shirt. This fashion trend describes the work of taking discarded material and reusing it to create an “upscale” piece of clothing that is more valuable than the original intent. In other words, you can take that damaged item and give it a totally new lease on life.
I do believe that’s exactly what God does with you and I when we finally come to the end of ourselves with a repentant heart and ask Him to give us a total make-over. When we finally fully surrender to His will, our Heavenly Father takes our inner core tattered by sin and upcycles us into a beautifully transformed display of His love and grace. What was once defiled now is supernaturally re-fashioned and given an entirely new purpose.
The creative hand of our holy God will design us into a miraculous handiwork. But, we must acknowledge that only God can upcycle our lives and restore us.
David has made a mess of his life, and now he humbly prays and asks the Lord to shape him into a pure vessel. The former fleshly wardrobe was not serving him well, and the Psalmist confesses His total dependance on the Master for a total reconstruction.
For years, I tried to fix my own heart, but I only ended up frustrated and failing miserably. I didn’t realize that I could never make myself better by striving to change my outward actions. My only salvation was to give God all the pieces of my life and ask Him to mercifully change me from within.
David prays for God to “upcycle” him from a selfish person to a steadfast spirit. We can do the same. The Lord will restore our hearts so that we are women who are settled in faith, resilient in obedience, and peacefully await the pleasure of our God. Our new design will be totally devoted to bring God glory.
