STRENGTH UNDER SIEGE
PSALMS - DAY 1
In 1748, the King of Sweden made a proclamation to build a stronghold to protect the nation from the ongoing Russian threat. A military presence would remain on the site of the coastal Fortress of Suomenlinna to safeguard the harbor. Unfortunately, construction was never fully completed, and the ill-supplied garrison came under siege and was eventually surrendered to the enemy.
The Psalmist describes God Almighty as His refuge and strong tower against the foe. David was a warrior who lived under siege for much of his young life. King Saul chased him down and cornered him. Yes, this man after God’s own heart had no home where to lay his head, but he rested in the spiritual protection provided by the Lord of Angel Armies.
Friend, you may be waging a spiritual battle for your family or your church right now. Don’t allow the enemy’s lies and threats to fill you with fear. Your God has always protected you in the past, and He will continue to defend you every day of your life. As your strong tower, He encircles you with His supernatural strength and ensures your safety.
A fortified tower of strength provides an elevated position from where we can keep a watchful eye on the enemy as the foe tries to sneak up on us and invade our secure refuge. When you choose to draw near to God, He will give you a clearer perspective and grow your discernment on how to best respond to the enemy’s schemes.
When you come under siege from your evil adversary, you can trust that God will fully supply all the resources you need to persevere in triumphant faith. Never surrender or give up. Trust His strength will always safeguard you.
