LET'S REPLENISH
Our next study starts this Monday, July 14th. Here's an overview of Genesis and a PDF copy of our reading plan for weeks 1 through 4.
What does it mean to “be replenished”?
In the original Greek language of the Bible, the word “replenish” is “mālēʾ: A verb meaning to fill, to be full, to be complete, to fulfill, to finish, to satisfy. This word occurs 251 times in the Old Testament. God commanded the sea creatures to fill the ocean and mankind to fill and replenish the earth. (Genesis 1:22 & 28)
The Oxford English Dictionary also provides some context:
Replenished (adjective): fully stocked; provided, supplied; physically or materially filled
To Replenish (verb): to make full, to stock with; to fill up [again] - with space, heart, feeling; to inhabit, settle, occupy the whole of; to satiate; to attain fullness
Throughout Genesis, we will discover that our God desires for us to live replenished, filled, satisfied, completely supplied, and lacking nothing.
OVERVIEW OF GENESIS
The genesis of anything consequential signifies its beginning or origin. Thus, the first book of the Bible tells the story of how God initially created mankind and established order and beauty. Within Genesis, God’s goodness to His children remains gloriously on display. Our Heavenly Father designed a perfect place for us to thrive, but our wayward choices conceived sin and brought chaos.
Thankfully, throughout this book of beginnings, we can see how our Redeemer God continued to extend His mercy and invite His children to enter in to His grace. No matter how far we stray, God will always receive back His repentant children and restore what the enemy has destroyed.
