LET THE TRANSFORMATION BEGIN
Our next study starts this Monday, February 17th. Here's an overview of Ezra and Nehemiah and a PDF copy of our reading plan.
What does it mean to “be transformed”?
In the original Greek language of the Bible, the word “transform” is “metamorphoo,” which is where we also get the English word “metamorphosis.”
The root “Meta” is defined as “a change after being with.”
“Morphoo” is defined as “changing form in keeping with an inner reality.”
Transformation for the believer is basically outward change in our behavior that reflects an inner reality of our belief as a result of our relationship with Christ.
OVERVIEW OF ROMANS
Doctrine can be defined as a comprehensive collection of foundational truths that establish the core beliefs of our faith. Let’s remember that our Savior said, “You will know the Truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32). Grounding our thinking in God’s Truth transforms who we are,
what we value,
how we relate to others,
and where we invest our time and resources.
AUTHOR, DATE, AND AUDIENCE:
The author of Romans is undisputed because the Apostle Paul clearly identifies himself in verse 1 as “set apart for the gospel of God.” He was a man transformed by the Good News of Jesus Christ. He had once been full of pride and persecuted the followers of the One he had condemned as a false Messiah, but then the resurrected Son of God appeared to him on the road to Damascus. His spiritual eyes were opened to the Truth of the gospel, and he repented of his way, turned from his self-sufficient sin, and surrendered all to the Savior.
