HONOR
STAND UP: DARE TO TRIUMPH DAILY OVER OPPOSITION ARMED WITH GOD’S ARSENAL OF SPIRITUAL WEAPONS (20 DAYS IN EPHESIANS) - DAY 16
My beautiful Mother in Law was a sweet woman, but she was very frugal. Nothing was ever wasted in her home. Even though she has been gone for over a decade, I see how her four children painstakingly seek to honor her memory by stewarding their resources by being penny-wise and prudent in their purchases. Bruce will often spend many weeks researching products and reading reviews before he will spend a dime. I know his Mama would be pleased.
Paul echoes back to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 and challenges the believers to act with honor to show respect for their parents. Truly, unselfishly honoring others — whether they be our parents or just simply a neighbor — makes an incredible difference in this sin-saturated world. We show our regard for the worth of an individual when we lovingly care for their needs and value what matters most to them.
Living a life that seeks to honor others does not simply serve their interests — this intentional act of obedience results in a fuller experience for our own lives. God’s favor rests on the responsible disciple who regards others with respect. Our days on this side of eternity will be richer, and His goodness and mercy will overflow for all the days we are blessed to enjoy on earth.
We mirror the heart of God when we honor others. Let’s ask Him to teach us how to take action this week to show respect our loved ones. As we serve others, the blessing we extend will boomerang back to us and bring beauty.
