Last night, my mom introduced me to a 1949 classic movie staring Olivia de Haviland as a naive wealthy young woman who is jilted by a suitor with questionable intentions. The gold-digging cavalier was externally handsome, but internally devoid of any commendable character. His pursuit was self-serving and proved his initial declaration of love was untrue.

After Jacob’s death, his guilt-ridden sons fear that their betrayed brother’s real intention will be to act with vindictive retaliation against them, but that likely outcome does not transpire. Joseph humbly decides he cannot usurp the role of the Almighty in holding people accountable for their sins. More importantly, he recognizes that God’s intentions always supersede the schemes of men, and so he has no reason to fear.

God’s “intentions” speak of His providential plan to accomplish His divine purpose. Every adverse circumstance Joseph had experienced had served to create perfect conditions to achieve an even grander cause. He trusted that the details of his life had not been determined by the whims of man, but by the will of the Almighty.

Friend, when we face difficult experiences, we can trust the faithfulness of God who always purposes to cover us with His grace:

His grace covers our sin and takes away our shame.

His grace brings reconciliation and peace that overcomes all the conflict and chaos.

The God whose grace replenishes you will provide all that you require to thrive on this side of eternity.

Replenished. Filled. Satisfied. Completely Supplied. Lacking Nothing.

His grace will always fill up your empty spaces with His goodness as you surrender your all and follow Him.

Joseph’s life shows us that the Almighty truly can take the evil schemes of others and turn them around into a miraculous blessing. Our Heavenly Father’s good intentions for us will always prove true.

FUEL FOR THOUGHT:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV)

We did it! Our 50-day Genesis study is done. Yay!

We have a two-week window before our next study starts on October 6th. Let’s spend those 10 days wisely.

For our “gap weeks” throughout the year, we will read through God’s prayer book.

We’ll jump back in starting with Psalm 91 on Monday.
