GENEROSITY
Reality Check / Day 11 & The Wildfire Faith Podcast, Episode 1
Whenever we share a meal, Bruce will never take the last bite of a shared dessert. He always wants me to have the larger portion. He is generous to a fault, and I will never be able to repay him for how he spoils me. My man finds great joy in giving himself away.
Have you discovered the secret? Living with an open-handed spirit will help revive your weary soul. This concept is contrary to the ways of this world, but it works. The world will tell you to grab your credit card and go buy yourself something to feel better, but that’s just a temporary fix. You will come home and then get the bill, and you will have all kinds of regret. But, if you make a meal for your friend whose husband is battling cancer, you will partner with God to be a blessing. And, as you get back in your car to drive home, your anguish about your own life will be a whole lot less. You might just get your joy back by baking someone else a batch of cookies.
Wisdom tells us that God rewards our generosity. When we give it boomerangs back at us and blesses us in the best way. We will be “enriched,” which in the original Hebrew translation basically means we will be made “fat.” It’s a picture of abundance, satisfaction, and health. You will never lack if you help supply what someone else needs. God promises to refresh you from His unending fountain of mercy. His living water will fill you up to the overflow.
