DADDY'S GIRL
Awestruck: Contemplate God's Wonder and Overcome Worry - Day 1
My relationship with my dad is “complicated.” My earthly father is an imperfect man and not an easy person to love. I confess that for years I was jealous of my friends who identified as a “Daddy’s girl” and had a close relationship with their father.
When I gave my life to Christ, I found great peace in knowing that I had a perfect Heavenly Father whose love I did not have to earn. He loves me because I belong to Him. He loves me even though I am a mess and make mistakes.
I don’t know where you stand in your relationship with your earthly father, but you and I are Daddy’s girls. Because we’ve put our faith in Jesus, we now share the same kinship with the Father that His precious Son enjoyed. Our Father sees our pain. He hears our cry. We can trust He knows our agony. On His darkest day, Jesus cried out “Abba Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mark 14:36) We don’t have a distant God. We have access to our Abba Father and can trust we will always be totally secure because we belong to Him.
The term “Abba” is an Aramaic word that speaks of an intimate relationship. It’s a term of endearment children would use to address their father within the privacy of the home. Like a dependent child who totally trusts their “Papa,” we have full rights as children of God. We no longer live as a slave to sin, but we have received the status of “heirs” to all God has promised. Our inheritance is established in heaven, and our eternal future cannot be undermined by any scheme of the enemy of our soul. We are blessed beyond measure and full recipients of all the riches of His kingdom.
Friend, as a daughter of the King of Kings, you have access to His ear. He will provide everything you need. You have nothing to fear. You can cry “Abba Father” and know that He will respond to your every need.
This world is full of women who do not know they have an Abba Father. As “Daddy’s Girls,” we have the opportunity to let the brokenhearted know that they can turn to Him and know they are fully loved and accepted.
Who do you know that needs the Father’s love today? Pray for her.
Let’s give thanks that we have an Abba Father who loves us conditionally.
