A NEW SONG
PSALMS - DAY 6
The young woman stood at the center of the sanctuary stage in front of a microphone and opened up her Bible to a Scripture that God had brought to her attention during one of the most confusing seasons of her life. The unchanging truth had helped strengthen her faith and provided the courage she needed to persevere through all the adversity. After testifying of God’s faithfulness, she put down her well-worn Bible and picked up her guitar. She proclaimed that God had given her a new song to sing, and she wanted to share the tune she had written with us.
The Psalmist encourages us to follow her example and open up our mouths to attest to the strength and majesty of our glorious God. The Hebrew word translated “sing” in our Bibles Is actually a call to praise. Overwhelming gratitude for God’s unchanging character and awesome works overflows from our heart, and we simply cannot help but marvel at His splendor and speak of His abundant goodness:
We praise His name. With humility we acknowledge His sovereign rule as the right authority to do whatever He purposes We submit to Him a the preeminent King who reigns over our lives. We devote our lives to the Faithful God who alone is worthy of our worship.
We proclaim His salvation. As a people who have been delivered from sin and death by the merciful hand of God, we now live to announce the Good News of the gospel. Our mission becomes to share the message of His forgiveness in this fallen world.
We declare His glory. Having experienced the supernatural intervention of a God who defies our human reasoning, we recount our first-hand knowledge to the lost nations who have yet to see the Light of His majesty. God displays His incomparable greatness daily, and we publicly confess that we forever stand in awe.
We tell of the wonders of His marvelous deeds to testify to the lost world. Those without hope in this world need to hear that God alone can accomplish the impossible and rescue them. When we have walked through difficult times, the Almighty has defied the odds and done an extraordinary work on our behalf. Now we live to profess of His amazing work to those who desperately need to receive His grace.
Friend, wherever God has placed you, you have the privilege of praising His name. He has lifted you up out of the pit, given you a firm place to stand, and filled your heart with a new song to sing. He has re-written the story of our lives, and now we are witnesses who worship Him and point others to His salvation.
